Whitby WV Memorial Page

This page is dedicated to those who have lived in Whitby and since then have passed on. Any contributions are welcome as this will be their dedication. There will be many more names as this is the starter to this series.
The contribution below is a very personal account and I was very touched by the generosity it represented. Thanks again to Ginny and Bob Lilly.

This is aunt Ivory and uncle Bob Garten. The two children are Margaret and Lucille, The two oldest of four children. Uncle Bob was killed in the Whitby mine in 1942. He was coming out of the mine on his motor and another motor was coming in and they hit head on. Someone had failed to switch the tracks. I understand Zeb Duncan was a witness to it. The other motorman was not killed. Aunt Ivory was left to raise the four children alone. She worked as janitor for the Whitby school for many years. By the way, Lucille is the baby in the picture and is the one who gave me all the details and said you have permission to put it in your website.

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:13
