Byrd Duncan at the Whitby WV Tipple
Thanks to the kindness of Bob and Patti Duncan, we can see a day in the life at the Whitby WV tipple. Byrd Duncan shown in the picture below assists in loading a N&W coal hopper. Working at the Tipple was very dangerous and at times had more perils than the mines themselves. The picture itself dates from ~1966 or 7. This picture of the Whitby Tipple was after the fire in December of 1963. A table of links for more Whitby WV tipple history is provided below.
